What's the story?
We've been to V2001 festival at Chelmsford on weekend 18-19 August 2001. Chelmsford is
situated on East Coast of England, about 30 mins from London by train. It's our first festival, so
we have no idea what festival will look like. Anyway, we carried loads of food and drinking water
to ensure we won't be ripped off and will definitely survive from crowded queue!!!
We arrived at Chelmsford about 11am on Saturday and there were hundreds of people traveling to
the festival in the same train with us. We were worried that we will be the site on time. Thanks God!,
the festival promoter has organised a sufficient number of free shuttle buses from the train to the
site. It took about 30 mins to reach the site because of traffic (I think it would be only 5-10 mins for
normal time) When we were at the site, the gate is still closed and it's very sunny day, so what else
it's fucking hot!!! Everyone has no idea what's going on, why they yet open the entrance. Hey! we
want to see the festival and it's so hot to only stand here. Come on! open the gate pls.
They finally opened the entrance around 12.30 noon and it was very slow queue 'coz they wanna
inspect every backpack to ensure there is no can, large bottle or alcohol on the site. But don't worry
if you are alcoholic. There are a lot of booths that sell beer, wine, baccadi and other spirits within the
venue area. However, there was only one kind and one brand of beer sold over there, say "cheese"
for Carling lover but who they are!!! (it's 2.80 a pint, not bad isn't?) Even though, I personally don't
think Carling is great lager but, I believe that they can sell millions of pints over those 2 days as I
could see from a plenty of paper pint rubbishes on the ground. So I may have to change my opinion.
Alright, that's enough for alcohol. Let come back to our festival but, no no it's not a time to talk about
music yet. (The few first bands were unknown and after we saw their show for a little while, we
decided they're still unknown for us.) We then unpacked our lunch to get some energy for it might
be a long day today. We felt that we're right to pack lunch here 'coz we saw just few food stalls in
our sight and they mostly got a quite long queue. After finished our lunch, the music that was
currently played is still unknown for us. So why would we destroy our ears with those sound, we
decided to take a walk around the site, and then we found some truth.
If you're a favorite fan of eating or shopping, don't worried that you would miss them. There were
hundreds of food and shopping stalls in heart of the festival. Whatever you want to eat (burger,
pizza, Chinese, Thai etc.), you got it here. Also, whatever you forget it at home and you wanna buy
(clothes, shoes, sunglasses, strange hat, rain cloth, plastic sofa, etc. or even henna tattoo), you're
coming the right way mate!! I felt like they took a half of Camden market here (the other is probably
at Stafford). So it's no need to pack loads of food and drink here for tomorrow any more.
